Cap what every key can spend

Give each key, teammate and workspace its own budget. When an agent loops, it hits the limit and stops. Refused requests cost nothing.

requests

Limits at every level

  1. Per-key budgets

Each key gets a budget that resets daily, weekly or monthly, plus an expiry for temporary access.

  2. People and workspace limits

Set a monthly ceiling for each teammate and one for the whole workspace.

  3. Cap spend per minute, or pause it

Slow a loop or a traffic spike before it gets expensive, or pause all spending at once.

  4. Low-credit email

Hear about a low balance before a job fails.

Where it pays off

  1. An agent stuck in a loop

A daily budget on the agent's key stops it at the limit, and every refused request costs nothing.

  2. Spend you can't trace to anyone

With one key per agent or contractor, every jump in spend lands on a key someone can name.

  3. A leaked or forgotten key

A budget and an expiry cap how much it can spend, and for how long.

  4. A month-end bill nobody predicted

A workspace limit sets the ceiling before the month starts.

Spend control questions

How do the limits stack?

Every limit applies at once: key budgets, teammate and workspace monthly limits, and the per-minute cap. A request stops at the first limit it would cross.

What happens to a request over a limit?

It's refused before it reaches the provider. You aren't charged, and your code gets an error back.

Who can change the limits?

The workspace owner sets teammate and workspace limits, the per-minute cap, the pause and the low-credit alert. Owners, admins and developers can give a key a budget when they create it.

What are the defaults and ranges?

The per-minute cap starts at $50 and can be set anywhere from $0.01 to $200. Above that, ask us. Keys expire after 7 to 365 days, and a workspace can have five live keys.

When does Hopscotch email me?

When your balance drops below your low-credit threshold. It's $5 by default and can be set from $0 to $1,000. Set it to $0 to turn it off. You get one email each time the balance crosses it. You also get an email when the workspace hits its monthly limit. Keys held by people who've left the workspace get a daily rotation reminder until they're rotated.

Does an alert stop requests?

No. Alerts are emails. Requests stop only when credit runs out, a limit is reached or the owner pauses the workspace.

Give your next key a budget

Create a key, set its budget and choose when the low-credit email goes out.
